UN SDGs for the Bioregion: Imbibing SDGs in our Bioregion with Mark Haubner

Why SDGs for the Bioregion
In 2015, 193 Member States of the United Nations decided that goal convergence was essential as a precursor to international efforts to make our planet sustainable and to ensure no one was left behind. It is a misperception, however, that the execution of SDGs is the sole responsibility of governments and multi-lateral institutions. Going forward we need to renounce the attitude that ‘someone else will take care of these goals’ and start to look at our work with our communities and how we can positively transform our own bioregion.
What we will cover
This workshop will examine the role of SDGs as applied to preserving or transforming local bioregions. It will focus on those SDGs which enable us to become stewards of our bioregion’s environment. The workshop will also help identify the appropriate stakeholders to engage with across the spectrum of entities such as governments, international bodies, non-profits, corporations, civic bodies, civil society organisations. Case studies will be presented on how SDGs can be used as tools and guides and how cross-pollination of SDGs can be used for amplifying impact.
Key benefits
Come prepared with your own thoughts and plans to address a key bioregion challenge with which you are concerned. You will be left with a better understanding of SDGs as applied to a regional context. This workshop will help you shortlist and identify the specific SDGs that matter most to your project.
