Today, volunteering is flourishing like never before and people are extremely spoiled for choice. Volunteering manifests in myriad ways and is no longer the exclusive domain of social sector professionals. Volunteers themselves now hail from diverse backgrounds, and what is striking is the direct and indirect, formal and informal support coming in from the corporate sector and corporate sector professionals.
In this webinar, Shakti Saran, Founder, Shaktify will be in conversation with Vijaya Balaji, CEO & Managing Director, Toolbox India Foundation and CEO & Founding Partner, Social Lens Consulting along with Ikuma Saga, Founder & CEO, Service Grant Japan, They will discuss the current state of volunteering In India and in Japan and what it means for the rest of the world. They will unearth the aspirations of Gen Z and throw light on the emerging models of volunteering. They will also explore how volunteering programs can be redesigned to shift the paradigm from mere outputs to outcomes and impact.

Ikuma Saga is the Founder and President of Service Grant Japan, a leading non-profit organization in the field of pro bono in Japan. He encountered Taproot Foundation in 2004, and started a few pilot projects in 2005, and incorporated Service Grant Japan in 2009. Service Grant Japan has been gathering more than 9,000 pro bono workers and completed over 1,800 projects so far.
He is involved in planning and developing pro bono programs that meet the practical needs of the social sector, as well as creating and developing many highly innovative projects through collaboration with a wide range of sectors, including companies, governments, and foundations and international pro bono organizations.
Up to 2005, Ikuma worked as a consultant in the Japan Research Institute, and engaged in governmental research and strategic business planning. Also Ikuma is the Co-Founder and President of Earth Day Money, his other non-profit organization that operates a community currency program in Tokyo.
Ikuma is the author of books titled “Pro Bono” (Keiso Shobo, 2011) and “Community Currency”(NHK Publishing, 2004).
Up to 2005, Ikuma worked as a consultant in the Japan Research Institute, and engaged in governmental research and strategic business planning. Also Ikuma is the Co-Founder and President of Earth Day Money, his other non-profit organization that operates a community currency program in Tokyo.

Vijaya’s foray into the Social Impact Ecosystem began when she set up the operations of toolbox INDIA Foundation in 2011. As the CEO and Managing Director at toolbox INDIA, she has worked across several programs and initiatives that leverage skilled talent for deployment in the non-profit space, having delivered over 650+ projects at toolbox INDIA. She has served as an advisory member for India@75, is an ecosystem knowledge lead for the Better World Initiative Program at Genpact, and serves on the board of Apnalaya,
which works to alleviate urban poverty.
As the founding partner at Social Lens Consulting, an impact-aligned consulting company, she has transformed the landscape of Capacity Strengthening and Organisation Development by conceptualising capacity-strengthening programs supporting 1000+ NPOS to date. Her work includes designing and developing methodologies and frameworks for Organisational Development and Impact measurement.
Vijaya collaborates with philanthropic capital providers and ecosystem builders to explore support measures and programs directed toward non-profit organisations for improved resilience and preparedness.

Shakti Saran, is the founder of Shaktify an initiative to power changemakers. A former banker and management consultant, Shakti crossed over to the non-profit sector in 2017 after spending 33 years in the corporate world. He is a systems thinker, writer, mentor and consultant and holds an MBA degree from Boston University. He is an alum of India Leaders for Social Sector, RTL Works and Capra Course, and has a certification in systems thinking from eCornell.
