Building an Ecological Civilisation Stories from the heart

DATE & TIME: 3 APRIL 2025 | 10:00 ET | 16:00 CET | 19:30 IST | 22:00 sST

Description

Of late there is considerable use of the term ‘Ecological Civilisation’  as a counter to the devastating environmental degradation caused by unchecked economic growth. Prior to the first industrial revolution, humanity lived in communion with nature for millions of years and our civilisation was truly an ecological one.

Authors Philip Clayton and Andrew Schwartz describe an Ecological Civilization as “a world in which human communities (our systems of economics, agriculture, education, production and consumption, etc.) are designed to promote the overall well-being of people and the planet. It’s a vision for a more sustainable and just society; a world that works for all.”

An Ecological Civilization is both a new and ancient idea. It intersects as much with peace and spirituality as it does with our current economic and social and political systems. So, what exactly is different now after four industrial revolutions?  Is it a goal we can attain or a goal we can only tend towards? Do we move ahead with some central blueprint or do we allow our endeavours to amplify in a self-organising fashion? How do we move forward?

The objective of this webinar is to precipitate a discussion on an Ecological Civilization through storytelling. In this webinar, Shakti Saran, Founder Shaktify will be in conversation with Joan Anderson, who manages Media Liaison for Soka Gakkai International and Nitisha Agrawal, Founder Smokeless Cookstove Foundation, as they share stories from their respective journeys seeking harmony with nature, peace and well-being.
