Screening of Radical Love
An initiative by Brazilian Director Julio Hey, Radical Love is an intimate documentary and personal testimony that reveals the journey of Satish Kumar, an Indian peace activist who, 65 years ago, left his homeland to bring to the West the seeds of deeper and more participatory ways of relating to life on Earth.
Radical Love reveals Satish’s lifelong commitment to life. The film deconstructs the harmful logic behind Cartesian, patriarchal, and capitalist ways of categorizing existence—ways of thinking deeply rooted in ideas of control, separation, and competition. It offers a unique and inspiring approach to the contemporary social and environmental crisis. Rather than focusing on warnings and the severity of the challenges we face, it turns our attention to the mutuality, diversity, and interdependence that sustain life.
At 90, Satish Kumar is living proof that violence is a seed and that if we do not nurture it, it withers and dies. He was a Jain monk in the 1940s, took part in the Gandhian movement and land reform efforts in India in the 1950s, walked across the world in protest against nuclear weapons during the Cold War, and later moved to England, where he founded influential educational institutions dedicated to a culture of
nonviolence and deep ecology.
Through his lifelong commitment to a culture of peace, Satish has become a bridge between different worlds. He moves through some of the most influential spaces within the regenerative movement, engaging with business leaders, religious figures, academics, celebrities, politicians, grassroots organizations, and young activists.
The screening will be followed by a live, interactive discussion with Satish Kumar and Julio Hey
